I'm in my 5th year of teaching, and I LOVE it! I taught 3rd grade for three years, and this is my 2nd year as a 5th grade lead teacher. I always like to explore other content in other grades because I'm sure I'll be moved at some point in the years to come. Currently, I am teaching 5th Grade Reading/ELA (reading, writing, language, conventions) and Social Studies. I also serve on my school's and district's leadership teams.
My classroom has an even balance of whole-group instruction, group work, independent activities, centers, and projects. I try to allow students to work with each other as much as possible, and being in the front of the room is not my focus. I'm usually walking around the room and allowing students to guide themselves during learning activities, with my assistance if necessary. I also like to use that time to pull students to provide additional instruction in their weak areas.
