18 years experience teaching first grade in Houston area public schools
Making teaching meaningful and fun are two of my top priorities. In teaching Language Arts I emphasize the importance of "Word Power." I teach students that analyzing words in many different ways adds to their word power ability. We learn about men and women who have used word power to make the world a better place. Incorporating hands on activities such as handling and observing live ladybugs, flying kites, helping to care for a first grade garden, keep students energized, excited and eager to learn in first grade.
I was awarded, Young Educator of the year and Educator of the year awards while teaching at Lamar Elementary in the Houston Independent School District.
