TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Thirteen years of teaching in the public schools, plus ten years of parenting literature and science loving kiddos of my own. We don't homeschool, but we do supplement with a lot of fun science, bookmaking, storytelling, and creative projects when the kids are out of school for weekends, holidays, and vacations.

MY TEACHING STYLE

hands on, creative, lots and lots of connections to literature, science, and nature!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am beyond excited to be working with Roost Books on my first book, coming to a bookshelf near you in 2015!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I was a history major once upon a time, but began a career in special education immediately upon graduating from U.C. Berkeley, eventually earning a Master's degree in special education. I'm now in my 13th year of teaching kids with disabilities, but have also done a lot of training in literacy intervention for kids of all abilities.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a special education teacher, writer, blogger, and mom to four curious kiddos. For the last few years, I have self-published an e-magazine related to great children's literature, storytelling, bookmaking, and fun kid science. You can look at issues of the magazine at www.alphabetglue.com or visit my science and nature blog at www.mudpuddlestometeors.com for great resources and information related to teaching kids about the natural world.
