TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Having worked with children and teenagers since the age of 15, I knew what I loved to do early. In college, I majored in Creative Writing, taking every type of writing workshop there was and immersing myself in literature studies. I began my career as a paraprofessional in a special education classroom for students with autism spectrum disorder. I worked for two years there at the preschool level. I then became a middle school ELA teacher in an alternative school within my same district. I teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students in small groups, and my classroom is truly my happy place!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I work in an alternative setting, which is small groups of students (usually 5-8 students at a time) and sometimes mixed grade. My routines and guidelines in the classroom are rigid, but once they are learned, we are able to have a ball. I require positive language and 100% effort. We celebrate small victories always, and every class period (or sometimes every part of a class period) is a new chance!
