TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for eleven years and have taught almost every elementary grade: first, third, fourth, and fifth. I would have to say that teaching in the upper grades has been my favorite. After 6 years in fourth grade, I am happy to be teaching fifth grade, where I am able to challenge myself more and work with new teachers. I teach at one of the best public schools in New York City, which gives me access to the most amazing professional development around and I am able to work alongside with some of the best teachers in the world.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I feel that it is important, after I teach a lesson, to give students access to that material to refer to, reflect on, and further their own learning. When I teach a lesson, I usually have a chart, handout, or some kind of tool that the students can use when the lesson is done to assist with their work. Since I have been teaching this way I have found a significant increase in student independence, motivation, and learning.
