Many of my students love combat sports (as do I)! The only problem was that there are not many academic resources for this topic. I have used the book "WWE Ultimate Superstar Guide" from DK publishing in guided reading with a few different groups.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a new teacher with only 4 month under my belt so far. With that being said, I have worked with a variety of children, many with special needs, in a variety of settings for the last 8 years. I began my teaching career as a resource teacher in a middle school. In these few short months i created many resources to support a variety of content areas. This year I will be 5th grade diverse learners (special education) in a self-contained setting. As I prepare I find myself needing to create new and different materials. I love to use simple programs (google docs and word) to make engaging and effective resources.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching focuses on empowerment and reflection. As a special educator I often walk the line of supporting a student and doing it for them. I use many visuals in my classroom yet keep the environment neat. The visuals allow for my students to complete reflection activities with more independence. I also believe that one very effective teaching strategy is to model. Some of my resources came from forms I originally used for personal use.
