I have strong passion for teaching low-income students. I have worked primarily in low-income schools and in a 100% inclusive classroom. Currently, I am a Title 1 reading teacher and love my job.
I try to use a very hands-on approach during my lessons, especially in reading. We allow students to play games and do experiments in math and science. Why not do take this same approach with reading as well?
My most memorable teaching moment of this year occurred while I was playing a nonsense word game with a group of students who were struggling with blending sounds. About halfway throughout the game, I practically saw the lightbulb go off in a student's head. I asked him to explain to the group what he was doing and he was afraid to explain because he thought he was cheating! This student still struggles but this game gave him an extra boost of confidence that he definitely needed.
I am a recent graduate of the Early Childhood Education program at the University of Cincinnati. Currently, I am applying to graduate programs to earn my master's of mild to moderate special education.
