TEACHING EXPERIENCE

MIDDLE SCHOOL BEHAVIOR RTI COORDINATOR • Managed two assistant deans and oversaw discipline system for approximately 400 students at a Title 1 public school • Conducted Functional Behavior Assessments and collaborated with Special Education, Social Work, Speech Pathology and other related service providers to develop Behavior Intervention Plans for students with chronic behavior problems SPECIAL EDUCATOR, HISTORY TEACHER, GRADE-LEVEL CHAIR • Designed and implemented comprehensive lesson plans in History for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students, including those with Special Education exceptionalities • Developed rigorous, standards-based curriculum implemented by History teachers across the FirstLine Charter School Network • Managed a grade-level team of teachers in addressing the academic, social, and behavioral needs of 90+ students SPECIAL EDUCATOR, SCIENCE AND WRITING TEACHER • Designed and implemented comprehensive lesson plans in both Writing and Science for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Special Education students at a Title I public school • Accommodated and modified lessons and instruction according to students' learning styles and exceptionalities, which ranged from cognitive to behavioral challenges • Instructed 18 students to achieve Individualized Education Plan goals, set in collaboration with the student, parents, and faculty, to achieve academic, behavioral and social success • Collaborated with fellow faculty as a member of school’s first Inclusion Committee; established new practices and guidelines to better serve the Special Education community

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that learning can (and should!) be fun--especially for middle school students. My curriculum and supporting materials focus on engaging my students' imaginations and curiosities, while challenging them to develop the reading, writing, and critical thinking skills necessary for success in high school.

Recognized by the state of Louisiana as "Highly Effective" teacher for three consecutive years. Recognized as Teacher of the Year by school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned both my B.S. in Journalism and my B.A. in Political Science from Boston University. I am a certified educator in the state of Louisiana through The New Teacher Project.
