TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I'm in my seventh year of teaching. I taught third grade for two years and this is my fifth year teaching second grade. I enjoyed third grade, but second grade is amazing! I have also been the science lead teacher for the school for five years.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My classroom is very structured. My students know the expectations, but I do what I can to make learning fun too. I firmly believe that students are far more successful when they enjoy learning. In my classroom, we are on a learning safari! My current students have a wide range of needs so most of my instruction is delivered in small group. This allows me to provide as much differentiation as possible. I use Daily 5 for my language arts block which allows me to meet with 6 small groups in reading each day. I have 3 daily math groups. I work at an IB school. This means that everything we teach is centered around a theme which changes about every six weeks. It also means that we integrate the content areas as much as possible.

I graduated a member of the National Honor Society.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have my bachelor of science in elementary education with a specialty in science and my masters of education. Both degrees were awarded from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I grew up in Minnesota and moved to Maryland after I finished grad school. I've known that I wanted to be a teacher since I was a little girl. I love working with struggling readers. I also love teaching math and science.
