I began my teaching career in 2004 as a substitute teacher in the Pittsburgh area. I relocated first to Virginia to teach 3rd grade, then to Maryland. In Maryland, I had the opportunity to teach multiple grades and multiple areas of content. I spent 6 years at my school before returning home to Western Pennsylvania where I currently teach first grade at an amazing school!
Hands-on, exploratory, active learning works best for my classroom! I love engaging, exciting activities that really gets my kiddos involved!
In 2010, I was nominated for the Baltimore City Teacher of the Year award. Although I did not win, it was an honor just to be nominated! I was the recipient of the STAR Teachers award in the spring of 2011. I was also named "Teacher of the Month" in December 2009.
I graduated from Hampton High School (in Allison Park, PA). I pursued my BA at Duquesne University (Pittsburgh, PA) in elementary education. I went on to add several certifications to my name (including early childhood, special education, media specialist, middle school math, and middle school language arts) before pursuing my Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Nova Southeastern University in 2011. I am about to begin a 2nd Master's Program at Duquense University. I will be working towards a specialist certificate in Curriculum and Instruction and a degree in K-12 administration.
