TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching for nine years. I taught first grade for five years, second grade for 3 years, and fourth grade for one year. I have taught in several different states as well as internationally.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in making learning authentic, engaging, and fun for students. I try to make all of my lessons meaningful and include both review and new skills in all of my units. I also believe in integrating subjects. My units always integrate reading, writing, and math, and I try to include social studies and science skills as often as possible. I also plan for different learning styles to reach all my students.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was a top three finalist for teacher of the year in 2009-2010. I was also on the committee to help plan the math curriculum in my county and was grade manager at my school.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my bachelor's degree from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. I graduated in 2003 with a BS in elementary education, early childhood education, and special education. After teaching for several years, I decided to get my master's degree. I have a masters in Reading, Writing, and Literacy from Georgia State University. My focus is as a Reading Specialist. I also received an ESOL endorsement from Georgia State University.
