I have been a Resource Room teacher for 18 years. I teach students with learning, behavioral, and social disbilities. I have worked with many students diagnosed with Autism. Over the years I have developed many behavior charts, schedules, trackers, and reinforcers.
I teach primarily with Direct Instruction but love teaching writing with my own modified version of Step Up to Writing. I have created many of my own social skills lessons using Children's literature. I enjoy writng social stories and creating behavioral supports visuals supports and trackers for kids. I use positive praise and reinforcment for appropriate student behavior but also believe in rewarding kids with small prizes or earned privilages for meeting personal goals. I try to make assignments and lessons fun for kids.
I have served for the last five years on my School District's ARTeam (Autism Resource Team). I have has the opportunity to attend trainings and classes from Tony Attwood, Jed Baker, Michelle Garcia Winner and Carol Grey.
I am certified K-8 Elementary Ed and K-12 Special Ed. I earned my BA fron Central Washington University and My MA degree is in Creative Arts (Lesley College).
I have two girls age 5 and 8 and am very involved in their education.
