I have been teaching English Language Arts for 23 years in various settings, including alternative education, residential drug rehabilitation, middle school, high school, undergraduate and graduate-level university courses. Since 1999, I have been teaching in Special Education. I have served as a mentor to many new teachers in both general education and special education, and I have been the department head at my school for the past 6 years. I lead professional development for general ed teachers regarding differentiation, accommodations and modifications for students with special needs in the general ed classroom. Why are my resources unique? They reflect my practical and nurturing nature toward students. I am an expert in accommodations and modifications for special ed students, and therefore am a good resource for general ed teachers. My outlook on teaching is this: I don't serve a school district or city; I serve children. The resources I offer will help you to do the same.
I use humor to gain student attention and engagement, and my students know that I value their time. I use every minute from bell to bell, to ensure they are deriving the most value from their time with me. I daresay we have fun along the way, as well. Time is precious. Let's not waste it, and let's not make it boring, either.
I am honored to serve children. I have recently had the pleasure and honor of being interviewed for a Learning Ally promotional video. You can view it here: https://youtu.be/ingLnabWb8k I am a trainer of staff members at my school, with regard to differentiation, accommodations and modifications, and scaffolding.
