TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching for 10 years and have done a bit of everything at this point! I started out as a middle school/high school band director for a short time before switching gears and focusing on early childhood. I have since taught Pre-K, 1st grade, and 3rd grade. I am currently discovering a much different experience from being a classroom teacher and am a kindergarten literacy and math interventionist, seeing students in the RTI tiers 2 and 3 individually and in small groups. I love experiencing a different aspect of life as an educator! I also teach week-long classes to gifted students in grades 2-5 during the summer.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that teaching and learning should be fun! I always try to find a way to engage students with educational games, songs, and other activities that sneak in the learning without them even noticing. :)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Music degree in music education, and from DePaul University with a Master of Education degree in early childhood education with special education approval.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I knew I wanted to be a teacher ever since I wrote about it when I was in 2nd grade! I absolutely love helping children grow and succeed. There's nothing better than witnessing that "light bulb moment" when something finally clicks for a student!
