I taught for 14 years in third and fourth grade classrooms. My focus has been on reading, and I have received my Master's in Reading. I am now the Reading Specialist, my dream job, in the school where I began my teaching career.
I love to see students learn for themselves. I feel I am a facilitator of their learning. By giving them the tools they need to learn, my students take off to find out for themselves.
I was the 2015 Teacher of the Year for my school and the Reading Teacher of the Year for the Piedmont Area Reading Council in Virginia. The best moment of my teaching was the day that I was told I would be the Reading Specialist at the school where I started my career!
I attended Longwood College, now Longwood University, in Farmville, VA and received my Bachelor's of Arts in 1997. I received my Master's of Education, with a concentration in reading from the University of Virginia in 2009. I continue to seek out new ways to teach students to learn to read better!
I am the mother of two beautiful children, a boy and a girl. They are almost 7 years apart, so I have my work cut out for me when I am home! I have been married for over 10 years and couldn't be happier!
