I have been teaching in the south suburbs of Chicago in an elementary setting for the past 8 years. I've worked specifically with K through 2nd grade levels for all of that time and have loved every minute of it! In addition to having a degree in Art Education, I also have a degree in studio art as well, incorporating many of my own best practices within my lessons and translating those for the younger ones to easily understand! A few years ago I also received my Master's Degree in Reading Education, hoping to include more of a focus on bridging literacy and art together in a way that is developmentally appropriate for younger students and fun as well!
I have high expectations for all of my students. I believe that art in the elementary setting is absolutely necessary for the kids in order for them to become well-rounded individuals as they grow. For this to become a significant part of their lives, they need to be able to experience art projects that cover a variety of media, be able to express themselves at all times, develop a sense of confidence in themselves and their work and hold a high standard for themselves. This is not to say that I expect the world from them in their art. I just want all of the kids to try their best and have fun at the same time!
