TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a seven year veteran of teaching 9th grade introductory biology and Advanced Placement biology. For the past two years, I have served as the MSDE STEM liaison to my school. I love my job and the challenge to continually create better content for my students.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I enjoy teaching through interactive lecture and inquiry. My lesson plans help organize complex material into easily manageable 'chunks', while focusing on real world applications. I believe that student success depends upon three factors: 1) a desire to please their teacher born through mutual respect, 2) self-efficacy, or the belief that they can be successful at science, and 3) engagement in the material.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Since taking over the AP Biology course at my school, enrollment has increased more than 100%. 94% of my AP Biology students passed the new AP Biology exam in 2013. Over 98% of my 9th grade biology students have passed the HSA since 2008. 100% have passed by junior year, and none have required bridge plans.
