TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began my professional career as an accountant (I am a CPA). After fifteen years I decided to make a career change and got certified to teach high school. I have just completed my 12th year of teaching at Lyons Township High School in LaGrange Illinois and I absolutely love it!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a firm believer in teaching students to problem solve. I was amazed the first time I handed out a worksheet and every student immediately sat back and looked to me for directions. I told them to just look at it and "figure it out" and I had a near riot on my hands. My activities are designed to require minimal instruction from the teacher. I want students to learn to analyze and problem solve. I am also a big believer in using math to teach concepts. I don't explain price fixing, I have students work out a math exercise so that they can understand how it raises prices. I believe that if they work through the math they can understand the concept.
