Hello everyone. I have been teaching in the field of special education for 16 years in isolated classes within special schools. Primarily I have taught students with significant intellectual impairment and autism.
Small class groups and individual lessons utilising positive behaviour strategies, structure and routines. I use plenty of visuals to support students. Core boards are worn and a large core is on my wall. Communication and social skills are a huge focus. I teach these skills in many different ways. There is lots of singing, music, movement, hands on activities including interactive books and generally a lot of play and enthusiasm. Sing it loud and sing it proud I say! We engage with early math and emergent literacy lessons along with the arts and a little science thrown in.
It's an honour to do a job I love. My awards are the gains in communication, social skills and independence the students make.
Post Grad Certificate in Early Years education with a focus on 4-8 year olds. Bachelor of Education Special Ed (4 year degree).
Sing like you just don't care cause the kids will love you for it!
