I teach high school art, including the gifted, as well as college studio art classes. In the past I have taught IB high school and middle school art and I have taught art for 25 years.
The arts can make us understand the world more deeply. It encourages thinking about any topic in new ways, while challenging the student to reach new levels of skill and thought. I do not just focus on art for arts sake, but believe as art educators, we are training young minds how to think about all aspects of life while pushing them to higher levels of complex thinking.
I have been honored as Virginia Secondary Art Teacher of the Year, as well as our regional art educator of the year. I have served on the board of our state art education association as well as our regional art education association, including leading workshops. I find it very important to attend conferences to understand how art education is evolving. I have written a range of art curriculum for two school systems. My art has also been included in many exhibitions.
