I teach K-6 Visual Arts and a seperate STEAM program in two Title 1 public schools. I have taught K-6 Art at four schools and developed three STEAM programs from scratch. I am a curriculum designer and instructor for maker education camps at the Smithsonian Associates in Washington, DC.
I prefer to be vibrant and use informal approaches with my program. My students are my peers and I only pull authoritative cards out when necessary. My art room is designed around student accessibility and curiosity. I am Responsive Classroom trained and support the use of growth mindset in education through interdisciplinary art lessons.
I have presented nine "Best Practice" lectures at the Art Education Association conferences on the Virginia state and National Level on Video Game Design and STEAM education over the last 5 years.
