I have a year's teaching experience at the K-8 level and prior to that, several years of teaching adults. I have an MFA with a drawing concentration and do my best to instill a strong drawing foundation in my students no matter the age group. If the feel confident at this fundamental level I feel they feel are more free in all of their creative endeavors.
I give my students limitations to work within to support their creative potential. My assignments have guidelines, a roadmap of sorts. For the new student just testing the waters, the map provides a clear goal and a sense of pride and accomplishment. For the more experienced young artist, the guide provides a platform for their own creative expression. I encourage my students to find their own expressive language whenever possible.
