I began teaching fourth grade in January 2004. Over the last 8 years I have taught fourth grade for 6 1/2 years, first grade for 1 year and 5th grade for one year. Currently, I hold Florida and Georgia certifications in Elementary Education, ESOL, Science 5-9, Social Science 6-12 as well as my Reading Endorsement. Over the past four years, I have participated in a Teaching American History, Fountains of Freedom cohort with my district and the American Institute for History Education (AiHE). I earned my Master's Degree in 2009 from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, in Space Science. I have served as a science mentor in my school and district since 2010. This includes writing roadmaps for Next Generation Sunshine State Standards which were distributed to elementary teachers throughout my district. We were also responsible for training and updating teachers on new science curriculum.
I prefer a hands-on, technology centered approach to education. I have been Kagan trained in both Cooperative Learning as well as Win-Win Discipline, so cooperative work is a staple in my classroom.
