Teaching is my second career; I have spent 15 years teaching Reading/LA to both regular ed students as well as special needs students. I stepped out of the classroom a year ago to be a Literacy Coach at Middle School where I engage in Staff Development to promote literacy as well as manage our 1:1 digital integration in the English/Language Arts Department.
Edgy...is that a 'style?' I have been successful with struggling readers because I make learning interesting and challenging! My approach is energetic, fast-paced, and engaging. Never once will you hear a student say they are 'bored' in Ms. D's classroom. I am an avid traveler - mostly on my own Harley Davidson Road King - and I have used my travel to create video lessons for my students. The concept of 'The Asphalt Classroom: Where Teaching and Learning Hit the Road,' was conceived about eight years ago on my first cross country trip on my Motorcycle.
I have several, none of which mean anything to me. The highest 'honor,' or the most awesome 'award' is when I see the light go on over a students head. Or when I encounter a former student who says, 'Thanks Ms. D. for helping me pass the [State Exam] and graduate.'

I am the proud Mom of two beautiful, brilliant, and talented daughters; both college graduates and independent women. I have a love affair with my motorcycle;I have traveled in all 48 states plus seven Canadian Provinces. I share a beautiful home with the Love-of-My-Life (He rides his own) and our two cats. I am a voracious reader, an accomplished photographer, and a Wannabe Author (three book projects on my computer in varying stages of completion). I collect skulls, I dislike cleaning house, I cannot live without music, and I'm crazy about fried grouper sandwiches.
