I have taught for 13 years in a public school setting just outside of Washington D.C. in Stafford County, VA. I have taught 1st grade for one year, 3rd grade for three years, 2nd grade for six years, and Kindergarten for three years. I did teach at a community college for a year, but that was not my calling. I do enjoy teaching the younger children much more! :) I am also one course away from obtaining my Math Specialist Endorsement.
I am a very kinesthetic teacher. I believe that hands-on learning is extremely important for students. I do try to limit the paper-pencil activities in my classroom and gear my children's learning more to exploration and discovery. Of course, there are times when discussion and paper-pencil are needed. I try to remain open-minded to all possibilities.
Yet to be added
I attended a public school growing up. I then chose to go to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) for physical therapy. As I progressed through the first two years, I realized it was not my calling. I did switch to a dual degree program (BS in Psychology and Master's in Elementary Education). After earning my degrees, I began teaching. I noticed that I still had a dislike for math stemming from my childhood math classes and decided to take courses at University of Virginia (UVA) to earn my Math Specialist Endorsement. After this, who knows what I will add to my educational background! I love to learn! :)
I was born into a family of ten children, me being the ninth child. I do have three boys that drive me crazy, but I love them with all my heart! My husband is my best friend and the love of my life. He supports me in all that I do and continuously encourages me to be myself and not conform to others' ideas. :)
