TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Upon graduating from Teachers College, I spent my first three years as Head Teacher in one teacher schools in rural Victoria. During this time I was responsible for the education of 20 plus kids from Prep to Grade 6. I then moved on to Pleasant Creek Special School in 1978 and worked there for ten years gaining extensive experience at working with special needs kids. During my time at Pleasant Creek, I worked with hundreds of kids with physical, social, emotional and psychological disabilities. I ran the Numeracy Program for teenage students at the Work Education Centre as well as the Driver Education Program. In 2007 I founded Aussie Kids Coach teaching remedial literacy and numeracy to Primary and Secondary School kids and this small business continues to grow every year.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style can best be described as child centred. I strongly believe that education is all about the child as an individual and that learning is enhanced by activities involving all of our senses in practical applications that cater for the child's individual needs. My teaching style focuses on engaging, nurturing, inspiring and challenging kids while building their confidence and self esteem.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have not received any teaching honors or awards. A shining teaching moment for me is when a child says: "That was awesome" or "I love fractions now that I know how to do them" or "I am happy and confident because I passed my revision test" or "Thankyou, I get it now".

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I failed Kindergarten- only went the first day and spent the whole day waiting at the front gate for my dad to return. I attended Concongella Primary School and then progressed to Stawell High School. I graduated from Ballarat Teachers College in 1974 with a Diploma of Primary Teaching, majoring in Mathematics, Economics and Psychology (Honours). I also graduated from the Life Coaching Institute of Australia with Certificate IV in Life Coaching in 2011.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am passionate about education and its role in our ever changing society. I believe that many of our educational institutions are outdated in the way they deliver meaningful educational programs to students and if our schools are going to be relevant in educating our kids for the future, then they must change their outlook and the way they operate.
