TEACHING EXPERIENCE

During college, I was trained as a behavior therapist as part of the Ivarr Lovaas Young Autism Program. I also taught in New York at the Nassua Suffolk Services for the Autistic, I moved and began teaching middle school self contained for those with learning disabilities until I returned to my true love of teaching those with Moderate intellectual disabilities and autism at the same middle school. I have taught at the pre-k level in a unit for children with autism until we lost our grant. I then took time off to be with my own kids. During that time I began working in the states early intervention program as a private service coordinator. I missed the classroom and returned 3 years later to again teach students with moderate/mild intellectual disabilities and autism in grades 6-8. I have also taught middle school resource reading, science, and social studies. I am currently teaching high school students with mild/moderate intellectual disabilities and autism. In May of 2015, I completed my Master's of Science Degree in Special Education with a specialization in Autism Spectrum Disorders from the University of North Dakota. I love my students and my job.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a teacher that loves to create functional real life activities for my students. My challange has been to meet the new Core standards while still providing a realistic approach to meet the needs of my special education students. The world of autism is ever changing and I love working with these exceptional kiddos. I am committed to providing the best teaching tools to my students and giving them the best opportunities I can to grow into productive and active members of society.
