TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am a Special Education teacher with almost 20 years of classroom and leadership experience teaching students with autism. Currently, I teach an amazing group of 1st and 2nd grade students in a self-contained classroom, specializing in autism strategies and techniques. After a brief stint as a General Education teacher, I had the opportunity to teach students with autism and did an about face. Asking my principal if I could change positions, she agreed, and I have been in this position ever since. I learn something new every single day from my kids and am proud to have been able to help them reach their learning potential.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Being a Special Education teacher, many of the activities that I create must meet the students needs, as well as our Math and Reading curriculum aligning to Common Core Standards. I feel that it is so important to create activities that help my students learn, as well as master their IEP goals. I am known for waking up at 2:00 A.M. and working on activities for my kids! It's so very rewarding to watch their darling little faces light up with enthusiasm. I may not get enough sleep, but my kiddos reactions are priceless. :)
