Dempsey Augustson is an award winning LEGO animator who uses the art of 'stop motion' to create social stories to support students with social communication deficits such as ASD and other social disorders. He is supported by his mother Karen, who works as a Consulting Teacher for disabilities with the Department of Education.
If students can't learn the way we teach then we must teach the way they learn. This is an alternative technique for teaching social skills to visual learners.
Dempsey has won a number of awards relating to Stop Motion Animations including winning first place for the Great Southern 'Risky Shorts' film competition, and being a state finalist for the film 'Police SAY Project'. He has also filmed, edited and directed a short documentary for the ABC (Australia). His mother (Karen) was a finalist in the WA Teacher of The Year Awards on two occasions.
