I have been a special education teacher for 8 years. I have taught a resource room setting, co-taught in multiple classrooms, and a cross-catagorical classroom. I currently teach in a structured teaching classroom, based on the TEACCH program for students with autism. I love it! There is nothing else I would rather do!
I spend my days with students on the autism spectrum between the ages of 5 and 10. So my teaching style is different depending on the student and their level. However, I love hands on activities. Velcro and lamination are two of my favorite supplies. I use almost no worksheets. I also make many work tasks based on the structured teaching model.
My classroom has been audited by Have Dreams, a non-profit organization based in Chicago IL.
I have a B.S. in Education with certificates in both elementary and special education from Eastern Illinois University. I also have a masters degree from U of I.
I am married and the mommy to two wonderful little girls!
