I have been a Bilingual Elementary Teacher for 16 years. I taught 3rd grade for two years and have been in 2nd grade for 14 years.
My style of teaching has always been theme and project based. I have always believed in a more holistic approach to teaching which I believe keeps students more engaged.
I was featured in a half page spread in The Brasilians, a New York Brazilian Newspaper. In New York City they were holding an exhibit, Amazonia Brasil which was all about the Brazilian Rainforest. My class happened to be learning all about Brazil so I contacted the exhibit and asked if it would be possible to have free entry for my class to which they agreed. As a result of this field trip we were featured in the Brasilians newspaper. I also managed to get free tickets for all of my students on the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) and NYC subway because I teach in a low socio-economic district. It's one of the field trips I will never forget and one where I happened to get a honorable mention.
