I have been teaching for over 44 years, in both public and private schools. In addition, I have a private tutoring practice . I hold two masters degrees, and am certified in NYS for Pre-K, K, Grades 1-6, Secondary English 7 - 12, Special Education, and Reading. I am the former founder and director of The Pioneer School, a NYS Board of Regents Chartered Private School for students with dyslexia. I have written two YA novels, The Journey of Hannah Woods, and Stoked - 1969.
I believe that a multi-sensory, explicit, language-based instructional methodology, continually spiraling back until the material is mastered, is the best way to keep students engaged and successful. Knowing how each student learns, and listening to what their interests are, is a sure fire way to capture each student's attention, empowering them to love learning.
