I am an 8th and 9th grade ELA teacher in rural Florida. I push writing through reading and reinforce reading through writing. I believe every child can learn and it is my daily goal to make sure that occurs. Technology is running my classroom these days. Chromebooks on every desk and Google Forms for every test. I believe strongly that children need to read every day on their own. I encourage independent reading and greatly reward those who do so.
I guess I teach today the way kids learn. I incorporate technology because they like the stuff and I do too. But, I also encourage competition and cooperation in every class period. I developed a structure for my classroom that allows students to consider and discuss what they are learning as we go through the process together. I have to listen to them as much as they listen to me. So, my style is ever changing, evolving, and morphing into what the kids need from me. Oh, and I like prizes. I have nifty, free prizes.
I am a highly effective, high impact teacher, which means my students learn. I was awarded High Impact by the state of Florida in 2017.
I attended the University of South Florida and graduated Cum Laude. What can I say? I like school.
