I began teaching kindergarten in 1995. It was a rewarding experience as I watched those little ones come into the classroom and I found myself comforting both child and parent on the first day of school. After 10 years I decided that I needed a change and moved into a first grade classroom. It has been amazing watching these children walk in reading easy readers and working themselves into small chapter books during a school year.
My style of teaching varies from year to year. I find myself gathering new things that work best for each individual child. Hands on materials are a key element that I have always incorporated into both my kindergarten and first grade settings. I love using centers to reinforce a skill taught and always enjoy having students ask to use those materials with a table or partner.

I received my Bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University in 1992, a Master's in elementary education in 1998, and recently completed a second Master's in school counseling.
I have been married over 10 years to a wonderful and supportive husband who has been quite patient as he has watched me cut, paste and hunt for materials to add to my classroom. I am also a step mom to 2 great kids who I have had the pleasure to watch grow up and pursue their dreams. Kirby is attending the University of Kentucky (GO BIG BLUE!) where he hopes to finish and move into dental school and Cassie has just been accepted to the University of Wyoming and will be studying to become a physical therapist.
