ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I come from a long line of family teachers. Both of my parents were teachers, so I guess it came naturally to me. But I never imagined how much fun teaching could be. And, as it turns out, teaching changed my life. I began writing short stories for my students. You know, to supplement the curriculum' s rather dry literature selections. My students loved these stories. And they bugged me and bugged me to write more and more. Eventually the first story, The Door Within, became a novel. In 2004 I received a contract to publish The Door Within and it has sold over 100,000 copies. Since that time, I've continued to involve my students in every book I write. They are my first line editors, and you would not believe the literary discussions we have each year. I am in my students' debt and outrageously honored to be a teacher.
