Together we have 12 years of experience in bilingual education. Lisa has taught grades 1-3 in both sheltered and bilingual classrooms, as well as ESL. Sarah has taught 2nd grade bilingual, and has 4 years experience in both dual language and bilingual kindergarten. She currently teaches bilingual kindergarten in the morning and is a bilingual reading interventionist in the afternoon.
In our practice, we have learned that fair does not always mean equal. It is important to meet each student where he/she is, and often times that means providing differentiated resources to meet varying needs. Students should have the opportunity to learn from each other, and we believe that developing our students' moral character is just as important as developing their academic skills.
Lisa graduated from the University of Illinois with a major in psychology and a minor in Spanish. She returned to school a number of years later to pursue a Master's in Elementary Education from National-Louis University. Continuing her education, she earned both an ESL and Bilingual Endorsement from the Illinois Resource Center. Sarah graduated from the University of Iowa with a double major in Elementary Education and Spanish. While in college she had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain to sharpen her skills in Spanish. She is currently working to complete her ESL endorsement from the Illinois Resource Center.
This is the first school year that we have had an opportunity to co-teach for a small portion of the day. We share a passion for equity in bilingual programming and resources, and therefore we chose to unite to bring you materials of a high standard that we hope will save you time and engage your students!
