I have taught ELA, English Literature, Humanities, and Reading Skills Development classes in grades 7-12 for 14 years in public and independent schools. I am a teacher, certified reading specialist, advisor, instructional coach, and dean of students. I have taught in a 1:1 laptop environment for almost a decade and served as reading specialist/consultant in the development of web-based education technology.
Learning can look serious, messy, chaotic, straightforward, loud, funny, or tranquil, but a tangible, shared sense of purpose and meaning is always present when powerful learning occurs. Teachers play the most active and essential role in facilitating these moments. Robust lesson plans and rich instructional materials support teachers as they carry out this most important work.
I have been published in AMLE's Middle School Journal, I present sessions on literacy and technology integration at national and local conferences including CUE, CATE, and ISTE. I was also awarded honorable mention for Edsurge and Digital Promise's (DILA) Awards for "leading by example" by demonstrating meaningful use of technology in the classroom.
