I've been teaching third graders in the Texas public school system at a Title One school (which means most of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch) for ten years. Third graders are my favorite! They are old enough to tie shoes and wipe their own noses but young enough to still think their teacher is cool! My students are: smart, enthusiastic, squirmy, diverse, eager to please, eager to learn, hard workers, athletes, respectful, and trying to figure out what matters in their little lives. I hope to be an advocate for them and help them understand the importance of a good education!
Whatever works! We constantly switch things up to keep it interesting!

In college, I worked part time for an after school program at a nearby elementary school. I helped students complete their homework and helped them work on fun and creative projects to supplement their learning during the school day. I found this work to be far more rewarding than my summer internship related to my college major. With graduation only weeks away, I struggled with what would become of my life. After a heart to heart with the elementary school principal, he encouraged me to "do that which I was born to do," and introduced me to resources that would help me get an alternative certification. Becoming a teacher and working in education is a decision I've never regretted.
