August 1990- Present District of Columbia Public Schools Washington DC Bilingual Special Education Coordinator/Bilingual Special Education Teacher August 2007 - Present Bruce Monroe Elementary School at Park View August 2006 – August 2007 Lincoln MMS JHS School January 2001 – January 2006 Oyster Bilingual ES School Washington, DC August 1990– January 2001 JQ Adams Elementary School Washington, DC Responsibilities as the Bilingual Special Education Coordinator/Bilingual Special Education Teacher for the above-referenced schools in DCPS were as follows: • Coordinate all aspects of the special education program to maintain compliance with district/statewide initiatives. • Monitor guidelines, timelines, and completion of student assessments, evaluations, IEP development and renewals according to federal, state, and district guidelines. • Provide ongoing special education administrate support and consultation to teachers, related service providers and evaluators. Consult with SST members regarding special education procedures upon request. • Develop monthly meeting calendar with MDT members. • Serve as LEA Chair and bilingual interpreter at MDT meetings. • Maintain accurate records of MDT interventions/actions. • Maintain log of special education coordination/case management actions/interventions. • Initiate referrals for students that require bilingual assessments. • Confer with specialists and parents to ensure the delivery of academic services that need to be modified. • Establish procedures for team meetings and data collection in the Special Education Data System (SEDS). • Provide assessment reports to supervisors. • Review Hearing Officer Decisions/Settlement Agreements requirements, determines assessment needs, and ensures compliance by deadline and standards. • Provide professional development to school staff relative to special education mandates, guidelines, and compliance issues. • Assist staff with the development and implementation of school accuracy management systems and/or internal audit systems. • Monitor students’ records for accuracy and compliance. • Monitor data collection for SEDS and Medicaid. • Assist classroom and special education teachers with the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA). • Assist school staff with providing effective student interventions based on IEP and team recommendations. • Attend and facilitates meetings related to student performance, evaluation, and programs. • Provide parent outreach and information about the special education program. • Provide professional development to school staff relative to special education research-based instructional strategies. • Prepare student records for settlement agreements and student hearings in litigation cases. Assist DCPS attorneys in the preparation of witnesses (teachers, related service providers and evaluators) for conflict resolution and student hearings, as needed. • Assist principal in the identification of and planning for the professional development needs (ENCORE, WWJ-III, FBA, Differentiated Instruction, Best Practices…) of special education teachers. Assess program needs and issue recommendations to principal (staffing, service delivery, materials) as needed. • Coordinated after-school tutorial program for students in need of English and Spanish academic reinforcement. • Coordinated yearly “The Latino Festival for the Latino Heritage month celebration • Organized and fundraise funds to take a group of special Education students with their parents to the Disney Youth Educational Program
