TEACHING EXPERIENCE

***Please be aware that ½ of the profit will be going to Save The Rainforest, Inc. Specifically, this money will be earmarked for a project called Green Rainforest in Panama to create a jaguar reserve. Your purchase will actually be protecting rainforests and jaguars along with the biodiversity found in that area!*** I taught 34 amazing years of middle school social studies. Along the way, I became a nationally recognized educator in rainforest, environmental, and outdoor education and a front-runner in the national interdisciplinary education concept. I was known for being innovative and forward thinking. In a recent newspaper story, the mayor described me as a “fire soul,” a positive agent of change. One of my educational adventures was teaching about tropical rainforests way before it was fashionable. I became a board member for the teacher run organization, Save The Rainforest, Inc., whose goal is to protect rainforests through education and direct action. Besides traveling to several rainforests, I led many trips with our students to the rainforests of Panama so they could experience the ecosystem first hand. I have written articles for magazines, journals and books about curriculum concepts as well as a college graduate course on outdoor education. Few people would ever envision teaching 6th grade to be very exciting, but it really was. I had the time of my life. My quest to learn more has taken me from the Great Barrier Reef to the Amazon Rainforest, from Machu Picchu to Troy. That excitement is what I hope to share through these lessons.
