Amy Atkins, PH.D. She was a professor at the University of New Mexico where she helped hundreds of students become teachers who respect all cultures and inspire creativity. Over the past 30 years, Dr. Atkins has directed many programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education. She has directed the Summer Literacy Camp for K-4 students in Albuquerque Public Schools. In addition, she has been the State Evaluator to the Public Education Department of New Mexico for Even Start Programs, as well as Site Observer for the Mathematica Reading Comprehension Study that assessed the quality of reading comprehension programs and instruction of 5th grade under RMC Research.
Our learning style is designed to nurture each child and encourage exploration and learning. Through a balance of play and academics, we create a positive and successful learning experience that keeps each child’s needs as the central motivation for lessons. It is holistic and child centered based on the work of Montessori and the works of Reggio Emilia.
Directed is aRT cONNECTS under a grant from the Fund for the Improvement of Education, a five state effort to help restructure language arts curriculum using National Diffusion Network Programs and the New Mexico State Facilitator for the National Diffusion Network. During this time, over 5,000 school classrooms adopted school improvement practices and over 1,000 or these received field evaluation. Director of Making Connections for Native American Students, funded by the Eisenhower program, an enriched, integrated curriculum for Navajo and Pueblo students. Also served as Director of the Rio Grande Writing Project and the Middle Rio Grande Educational Collaborative.

We work at a Dual-Language school serving children three years of age, PreK, and 1st grade. I also work with the students in grades two to five in out-of-school settings. Our curriculum supplements bring together language arts, arts and science for all of our students.
