I am the current owner of the Educational Media Design and Technology site www.BillyBear4Kids.com, a PD Adult Instructor and Educational Access Channel Producer in Local ISD, MI. Media Coordinator, Professional Development Instructor & LISD TV Producer and LISD TECH Center Adult Education Instructor - Multimedia Savvy, Teaching Web 2.0 tools to class of 16. All staff began at different levels of technical experience. Once the class was complete, they had a website, blog, facebook and hands on experience with many Web 2.0 tools and technology such as camcorders, cameras and flash drives.
In my heart, I believe instructors help students move from caterpillar to butterfly. We simply provide the opportunities for the students to advance what is within them with the artistic mediums available. Nothing changes once digital design is added to the equation. The software and technology tools are still simply a medium and should not be used to determine the possibilities. My research shows that motivation is at its highest when instruction is defined and then differentiated per student. Although it is challenging with a classroom full of students, achievement as a whole is much greater when all advance independently. The expectation for each student is for him or her to share their knowledge with other students. This shows they can retell the instruction received. I have found retelling is the strongest form to evaluate comprehension. Finally, I strongly feel when ethics and integrity such as abiding confidentiality and copyright laws are set as the standard, students will follow suit. I believe these instructional practices could be used throughout all career fields.
