I have been teaching Kindergarten since 2012 and I can't imagine doing anything else! I absolutely love my kiddos and spend WAY too much time creating things for them. :) I am happy to share them with other teachers, so they can spend less time creating and more time reflecting on how GREAT our jobs are!
I have a very bubbly personality, which is directly reflected in my teaching. I like to think that being a Kindergarten teacher is the best job, because I get to dress like Miss Frizzle from Magic School Bus and nobody bats an eye! My classroom is always filled with laughter, music, and stories. However, my students know that when Mrs. Blatchley means business, she means business!
My most recent shining moment as a teacher was working with two of my EL students. Both of these students do not speak English at all, however they don't speak the same language either: Somali and Spanish. My proudest moment as a teacher was watching my Spanish EL student teach my brand new Somali student how to use the white boards and markers on the carpet. I had taught her previously, and now she was sharing her knowledge with her new friend. She even used some of the phrases I had repeated endlessly to get it to stick. ("When you put your cap in, listen for the click!") Neither of them could understand the same language, but they were using all the other cues that I work so hard to include in my lessons. Apparently it's working! :)
I graduated from Northwestern College (now the University of Northwestern - St. Paul) in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. I am hoping to put a few more years of teaching under my belt before I jump into another degree.
My husband and I are enjoying the city life in Saint Paul, Minnesota. We are Minnesotans to the core! I would love to say that I am a lot like Elsa from Frozen and that the "cold doesn't bother me anyway," but then I would be lying. :) The most important thing about me is my faith. I go to God about every decision in my life and believe that through him is the only way to live. May God bless you and your school year!
