Prior to earning my B.S. in Elementary Education, I was a Secondary Mathematic Education major. Due to my growing family, I chose to change my major so I could spend more time at home. I started my teaching career as a Math Intervention Specialist at a third and fourth grade school. I then moved to a classroom at a fifth and sixth grade school. I have been there for six years. I initially taught Earth and Space Science and now teach sixth grade math.
My teaching style is active, enthusiastic, personal, authentic, and engaging; It's BONA FIDE! My teaching style reflects the ideas of cognitive theorists such as Piaget, Vygotsky, and Dewey; "Hands-on, minds-on" and social interaction.
I have maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout my educational journey. I am a 2016 Alabama Educators Space Camp Alumni. I am a member of my school's leadership team in which I lead the Parent and Community Engagement task force. I am assigned as a mentor for new educators at my school. I am my school's Recycle Bowl coordinator. My school has been a Top 10 School in the Recycle Bowl Competition for the last five years. I am an AMSTI trainer. I have trained people all over the state of Alabama. I am one of three P.L.T.W. trainers in my school system. I have recently won a trip to Get Your Teach On's National Conference in San Diego.
I received my B.S. in Elementary Education from Athens State University in 2011, my M.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Alabama in 2016, and will earn my E.d.S in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama in May of 2018. In August of 2018, I will return to the University of Alabama to begin my journey towards becoming Dr. Kasey Wood.
