TEACHING EXPERIENCE

With 50 years of combined teaching experience, we are Alice and Ashley. We are two life-long learners that aspire to instill that love of learning in children! Alice has taught first grade for the majority of her 39 years in the classroom. Her focus has been reading and integrating all other subjects with the reading process. She has been a teacher mentor for 10 years and taught staff development. Ashley has 11 years of art teaching experience, with both middle and elementary school students, as well as public and private schools. She enjoys including art as a cross-curricular tool to enhance a child's overall education and creates the illustrations for Alice's ideas and items in the shop.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Both of our teaching styles are hands-on learning. Alice focuses on concrete materials and role playing. She uses a game format to reinforce skills with an emphasis on reading across the curriculum. She uses visual, auditory, and tactile learning to simulate the real world in the classroom. Ashley's teaching style includes "love and logic" which enriches students’ ability to learn and grow. This hands-on, compassionate approach demonstrates that art can be seamlessly integrated with other disciplines to strengthen curriculum, providing the greatest impact on a child’s education. Art can build self-esteem, encourage creativity, and reinforce academic concepts and so much more!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Alice has been voted Teacher of the Year in her school three times, and Ashley has been voted Teacher of the Year one time.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Alice has a B.S. degree in elementary education from Florida Southern College and a Master's Degree in elementary education from Georgia State University. She also has the Teacher Support Specialist endorsement, and she has mentored new teachers and veterans. Ashley has her B.S. in Art Education from Columbus State University and is certified kindergarten through 12th grade.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Alice lives in North Carolina, and enjoys all sorts of outdoor adventures with her family, like geocaching! Ashley lives in Georgia and enjoys a variety of things related to art, especially hand-lettering.
