My experience in the classroom started in English I, which I taught for 2 years. I then realized the struggle many students were having in reading was the lack of interest in it, so I decided to start at the foundation in the elementary classroom. I have taught grades 2 to 4th and specialized as a Reading ELAR teacher for 3 years before I decided I wanted to have a larger impact in creating a love for reading. This lead me to pursue librarianship and have been in the library for the past 4 years. I love reading children's storybooks and encourage my upper grades to share a great read aloud at least daily!
I am a very experiential individual, in other words, I love to try things out! I move things around and keep at it until the Aha! moment comes. I love to bring joy to the library and encourage exploration of ideas and truths to my students. I allow them to lead our discussions many times drawing from their own personal journey, which in return enriches our campus.
I have several grants that have been awarded for our various projects that usually deal with integrating some form of technology. I received Teacher of the Year ward in years 2015-2016, as a librarian which was a challange in itself, but such a priveledge and honor.
I am certified in English for grades 8-12th and EC-4 with a supplement in ESL education. Masters in Library Science and certificate for School Librarianship
We can always find that one story that helps drive us to be better, do better and spread the joy in life. I search for other likeminded individuals in this world that can build up our education system and help debunk the negative!
