Mary Oemig has taught at the college level and at the primary level. She also regularly volunteers, including teaching units, at the K-8 level. She has a Montessori Early Childhood certificate, half of a Masters in Rhetoric & Composition and Education, and a J.D. (with a focus in intellectual property rights). Eric Oemig is a former State Senator who served as Vice Chair of the K-12 Education Committee. He was a negotiator trusted by all sides during landmark education reform in Washington State and was endorsed by the Washington Education Association. Dee Oemig is a former public school math teacher.

Senator Oemig received the Public Leadership Award from Washington Public Campaigns for his work on campaign reform. Dee Oemig was a Tandy Outstanding Teacher, a Wisconsin Society of Professional Engineers Outstanding Teacher, and received the Brass Lamp Award. Boom Learning (also known as Omega Labs) created the app Mathtopia+, a puzzle style game for practicing math facts, winner of the 2013 Children's Technology Review Editor's Choice Award for Excellence in Design.

Eric has served on the boards of First Robotics Washington and Technically Learning (which merged with Code.org). Mary has served as president of her PTSA, Executive Director of Reach Learning Cooperative, and been involved in improving education.
