TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught 5th grade ESL (SEI) immersion and K-6 ESL pull-out in public schools until I had my first child. I home-schooled my own children in reading, religious studies, and foreign language when they were younger. Then, I taught art at a religious day school, using my B.S. in Communication and Fine Arts. As the school grew immensely, so did the art position, but I wanted only part-time work. I switched positions and became the elementary reading Interventionist at the school, using my M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction and Reading Endorsement. Now, I am available for private tutoring during the school day or after.

MY TEACHING STYLE

The idea put forth by ESL guru Stephen Krashen as well as neuroscientists is that students often put up an invisible, non-verbal, emotional wall that blocks their learning. Our job as educators is to "lower the affective filter" so learning can take place. My products are brain-based, fun and engaging. Students are supported, not threatened by the activities, and feel motivated with my educational games and hands-on activities, which is the way to lower the affective filter. Students have different learning styles, life experiences, abilities, and fears when they walk into a classroom. Therefore, my lessons use various modalities to help students acquire the learning in several different ways. And, the latest brain research shows that using multiple parts of the brain while learning, is a more effective, faster way to learn rather than sitting still or doing skill-and-drill.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Infuse fun in learning and ignite a passion for Judaism with my brain-based educational resources! I am a former classroom teacher who created Brain-based Learning Hub and The Jewish Classroom. My goal is to help teachers and parents integrate learning across the curriculum via game-based learning (a form of brain-based learning). Subjects Include: Hebrew alphabet kriah (reading); Jewish holidays; other Jewish themes; and Secular subjects. My products are based on the latest research about learning, and therefore reach all learners whether they are typical learners, English language learners, or challenged learners with special needs. My Games and Game Templates: - promote positive experiences in Judaism - promote a positive attitude toward learning English subjects - engage students - allow for differentiating instruction - are versatile for both whole class and small center instruction - increase academic levels - increase recall and retention - increase students' self-esteem To view products that will excite, engage, and motivate your students, browse my TpT store.
