Most of my teaching experience has been in low income, needs improvement schools. I have taught four years in sixth grade social studies and have been very successful. Because of the environment in which I have grown accustomed to, I have developed a way of teaching that is standards based, practical, and interesting.
I like to teach in a logical, organized, consistent format. I have found that my students learn best and are well behaved if the teacher is consistent and precise about their expectations. I also am a Thinking Maps trainer so many of my lessons involve Thinking Maps. If you are not familiar with Thinking Maps I have created a website that would help you become informed about Thinking Maps. Please follow this link (https://sites.google.com/site/gonewberncats/) to learn more about Thinking Maps and more about the school I teach at. I created the site in order to train our new teachers.
I have been an active member of our leadership council for three of my four years teaching. Although I have not received "Teacher of the Month" or any other similar awards, I have received exemplary marks on my Teacher Key Evaluation System evaluation for two years and exemplary marks on my GTOY evaluations for the prior two years.
I graduated in 2008 with my degree in secondary education but started working in middle grades in 2009. I then received my masters in Integrating Technology in Education in 2012. I also received my gifted certification in 2013.
