I have been an instructor for over 26 years in both the private and public sector of education. I currently teach pure sciences to high school students as well as privately tutor sciences and mathematics to all grades.
Students learn best through repeated and variable instruction. When students are given total immersion in a concept, they are more likely to utilize their own methods of problem solving. In my classroom, I teach a concept for 15 minutes or less. Immediately following instruction, I engage students in peer-to-peer instruction by making predictions, demonstrations, or investigations. After allowing sufficient time to brainstorm, students are asked to give their conclusions.
